Enter the dimensions of the area you are covering with gravel and this calculator returns both cubic yards (how landscape supply yards price it) and tons (how stone quarries weigh it). Default density is 1.4 tons per cubic yard, typical for crushed stone — adjust for pea gravel or road base.

How it works

Formula

Cubic Yards = (L × W × Depth/12) ÷ 27 • Tons = Cubic Yards × Density

Worked example

A 20 ft × 10 ft area at 3 in deep = 1.85 yd³. At 1.4 tons/yd³ that is about 2.6 tons of crushed stone.
